SAVE US O LORD OUR CREATOR

SAVE US O LORD OUR CREATOR

  • Peter Oluwatomiwa Timothy

“Save me, O Lord” is a cry that shows up all through the Bible. People have been praying it for thousands of years when life gets heavy.

Bible verses where people cry “Save me, O Lord”:

Psalm 6:4
Turn, O Lord, and save me; save me because of your unfailing love.
David prayed this when he was weak, sick, and overwhelmed. Short, raw, honest.

Psalm 31:16
Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
A prayer for rescue when enemies and trouble are closing in.

Psalm 116:6
The Lord protects the unwary; when I was brought low, he saved me.
This one shifts from “save me” to “you did save me” – a testimony.

Psalm 109:26
Help me, O Lord my God; save me according to your unfailing love.
David again, asking God to act not because he deserves it, but because of God’s love.

Matthew 8:25 – New Testament version
The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Same heart, different storm. They were in a boat, waves crashing, and Jesus calmed the sea.

The story behind it: Peter sinking on the water – Matthew 14:22-33
After feeding 5,000 people, Jesus told the disciples to get in the boat while he prayed on a mountain. Night came, wind picked up, waves got rough. Around 3am Jesus walked to them on the water.

The disciples freaked out, thinking it was a ghost. Jesus said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Peter said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus said “Come.” Peter actually stepped out and walked on water toward Jesus. But then he noticed the wind and waves, got scared, and started sinking.

That’s when he cried the shortest, most desperate prayer in the Bible: “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. Then he asked, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

The point of the story isn’t Peter’s failure. It’s that even when faith wobbles and you start sinking, “Save me, O Lord” is still enough. Jesus doesn’t wait for a perfect prayer or perfect faith. He responds to the cry.

So if that’s where you’re at today – overwhelmed, tired, feeling like water’s over your head – you’re in good company. David, Peter, the disciples all said the same 4 words.
